Triofox administrator can publish local file shares so that other users can access these shares. Before publishing, verify that the share is accessible from the Triofox server. To do this, open File Explorer on the Triofox server and enter the share’s UNC path. If prompted, type in the an AD user's login/password, using an user who has access to the share. You should see the files and folders in the share. Once confirmed, you can proceed to publish the share in Triofox.
Triofox can follow the existing NTFS permission defined in the share, to access it. To do so, need to define local Active Directory integration first.
To publish the share in Triofox:
. Login as admin on Triofox web portal. Go to Published Shared. Here, click 'ADD A SHARE'
. Type in the share name. The share name will be the folder name showing on Triofox.
Description can be used to help admin to identify the share later
The type of share to publish is 'CIFS/SMB/DFS Share or Local Folder'
Click NEXT
. Type in the share UNC path. Or if the share is a local folder on the Triofox server, can click 'Browse' to select the folder.
Select the corresponding access mode:
- Use both NTFS permissions and permissions defined in Triofox:
Triofox will use both permissions defined in Triofox and the share's local NTFS permission, to access the share.
Define an AD user's id and password, to access the share.
When an AD user accesses the share, Triofox will follow both local NTFS permission and permissions defined in Triofox.
When native user (user created in Triofox only) accesses the share, Triofox will use the AD user defined here to access the share. - Always use NTFS permissions:
In the mode, Triofox will always follow the logged in AD user's NTFS permission to access the share. It will not allow native user to access it. - Always use permissions defined in Triofox:
In the mode, the permission to access the share is defined in Triofox directly. Need to type in an AD user's id/password. Triofox will always access the share with the AD user specified here. The AD user needs to have full access to the share.
. Settings:
- The share is from a Linux/Unix/ZFS Server: If the share is not standard windows CIFS/DFS share, enable the share. It is used when the share is from Linux/Unix/Mac.
- Enable In-Place Versioning: When the setting is enabled, Triofox will add it's own inplace versioning on the share. When a file is updated, the current copy is stored as old revision, and a new revision is created. When a file is deleted, it is marked as deleted. User can restore the deleted file, before it is purged based on Triofox retention policy. If the share is constantly backed up, no need to enable it.
. Assign some AD users/groups to access the share.
When local AD integration is defined, can navigate to different OU to select AD users.
Can click Magnify glass to query the AD groups.
Can select existing users already imported in Triofox.
The users will be defined in Allowed Users for the share. Can update later.
Click PUBLISH to publish the share
The share is added under PUBLISHED SHARES.
Clicking the share under Published Shares. Go to Access Control, Allowed Users. See the user/group defined during the publish wizard. Only users/group defined under Allowed Users, can access the share in Triofox.
If needed, go to Folder Permissions here, to fine tune the permission to access specific subfolders under the share.
